Pastels

Pastels are a bright, active, and loose way to draw with color. Students think about color relationships as they observe and draw their subject matter. Learning color mixing and a sense of texture by blending the pastels is a very exciting experience. Dynamic pieces of art can be created by using color on color.

Self-portraits

I try to dispel the fear of drawing people by teaching self-portraiture. Students learn how to place the features of the face in the right proportions. Students experience how little shifts in their line quality or placement can affect the overall appearance of their artwork.

Acrylic Paint

Acrylic paint is a creamy, quick-drying medium that allows students to layer subject matter creating a composition that expresses depth. Students learn and practice the transferable skill of color mixing. They also consider the relationship between the brush size and stroke. This medium is used for representational as well as expressionistic art.

*This is not a comprehensive list of mediums that are taught, rather examples of projects from the past.
