8th - 9th Grade
Mediums
Pencil
With the medium of graphite pencil, students merge observation skills, line quality, and values to make drawing look 3-D. Students explore using a range of values and marks to describe their subject matter.
Charcoal
Charcoal is a classic artist’s material. It can be used for quick studies as well as developed, finished artwork. The wide, sweeping marks made by a charcoal stick are very satisfying. There is a lot of push and pull developing the highlights in the shadows of the subject matter. Charcoal is a fun material suitable for all subject matter.
Oil Pastel
Oil pastels at this age group become a painterly material with a drawing application. Composition, color mixing, and stroke direction bring the artwork to life. This medium pairs well with landscape or still-life drawing.
*This is not a comprehensive list of mediums that are taught, rather examples of projects from the past.
Be Unique.
Through art you can uniquely view the world and draw something only you might have seen in a way only you can imagine.
